Assistant Director, Student Financial Services
The Assistant Director, Student Financial Services focuses on providing a high level of customer service via walk‑in counseling, phone calls, and appointments regarding the financial aid application process, student account inquiries, and financing options, loan counseling, and debt management strategies. The candidate must be comfortable discussing the details of a student’s bill and conducting necessary follow‑up and outreach in order to keep students accounts in good financial standing.
ResponsibilitiesCounseling (40%)
- Provide financial counseling to students and families via walk‑in, phone calls, emails, Zoom and in‑person appointments regarding the financial aid application process, financing options, student account inquiries, loan counseling and debt management strategies.
- Discuss billing questions with students and their families and provide detailed information about tuition charges.
- Oversee, coordinate and conduct affordability meetings with incoming first‑year and transfer students and families.
- Manage assigned caseload.
- Conduct first‑level institutional collection outreach on over‑due bills, including phone calls and emails.
- Manage and be responsible for at least one of the primary Student Financial Service functions, such as payment plans, outside scholarships, federal work study, or VA.
- Assist office with training staff.
- Represent the Office at open houses and other college events.
- Present job‑related workshops and give presentations at team meetings and to student and staff audiences on and off campus.
- Develop and maintain documentation of appropriate procedures for administrative responsibilities.
- Occasional nights and weekends are required as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in financial aid, student accounts, or a related field, with demonstrated ability to manage student counseling, billing inquiries, and loan counseling.
- 1 to 3 years of supervisory or team leadership experience, including training and mentoring staff and managing workflows or departmental processes.
- Strong communication, organizational/analytical and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team of highly motivated and experienced individuals.
- Honesty, integrity and commitment to maintain high professional standards.
- Ability to communicate well by telephone and email, in addition to face‑to‑face interactions.
- Experience with relevant software programs (Datatel/Colleague, Microsoft Office) and knowledge of federal need analysis.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Typical office or administrative working conditions. Staff is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there are no special physical demands.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
The pay range associated with this posting reflects the amount the University reasonably expects to pay for this role at this time. Salary offers are determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications as well as internal equity, market data and pay in comparison to similarly situated employees doing comparable work.
Hiring Range: $56,600 - $62,900
