Boston Public Schools (BPS) seeks an exceptional Elementary Teacher with an SEI endorsement to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. This long‑term substitute position begins on November 11, 2025 and ends on January 5, 2026. All substitute teachers are hired on a per‑diem basis.
Reports to:
Principal/Head of School
- Teach an interdisciplinary course of study that integrates reading, writing, and analytical skills development in alignment with state curricular frameworks for core content areas.
- Implement district learning goals and objectives using the district‑supported curriculum outlined in the District Curriculum Universal Accommodation Plan.
- Create a developmentally appropriate, child‑centered environment that establishes positive student behavioral expectations through structured routines and positive behavioral interventions.
- Establish classroom structure that values positive relationships through intentional implementation of appropriate curriculum.
- Administer district mid‑year and end‑of‑year assessments in accordance with district guidelines.
- Accountability for Student Achievement – set ambitious learning goals, assess student understanding, and adjust instruction.
- Communicating Content Knowledge – demonstrate mastery of content, enthusiasm for the subject, and creative, engaging instruction.
- Equitable & Effective Instruction – scaffold and differentiate instruction, foster engagement, and build a safe learning environment.
- Cultural Proficiency – create an environment that respects diverse backgrounds and identities.
- Parent/Family Engagement – build collaborative and respectful relationships to support student learning.
- Professional Reflection & Collaboration – reflect on practice, seek feedback, and contribute to a professional learning community.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Massachusetts Teaching License for Elementary Grades 1‑6.
- Fully licensed and Highly Qualified under state and federal guidelines.
- Authorization to work in the United States (must be valid on first day of employment).
- Experience teaching in urban schools.
- SEI endorsement or dual certification in ESL.
- Degree in Education.
- Fluency in one of BPS’s official languages (Spanish, Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali, etc.).
- Certification in a subject area and either Moderate Disabilities or English as a Second Language at the appropriate grade levels.
Full‑time, 1‑year contract. BPS schools may offer extended day schedules through the “Schedule A” Expanded Learning Time agreement.
