Summary
This position is eligible for the EDRP – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of their start date. Approval and award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a complete review of the application.
Qualifications
- United States citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when no qualified citizens can be recruited).
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an VA‑approved school.
- Full and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Completed residency in an accredited core specialty leading to board certification (ACGME or AOA approved). Residency or board status may be required for faculty status.
- Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Physical requirements:
meet physical standards for the position, pass a pre‑placement examination, pass drug testing, and be able to lift 15‑44 pounds and perform other functional tasks. - Other special educational or training qualifications as defined in the VHA job announcement.
Duties
- Full‑time physician‑resident provider (PRP) or permanent physician depending on training status.
- Serve as attending physician in the Outpatient Geriatrics Consultation Clinic at VA Boston (Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, Brockton).
- Provide direct patient care, supervise and teach geriatrics fellows and trainees.
- Travel between clinics weekly (Jamaica Plain – West Roxbury – Brockton).
- Duty hours limited to weekdays during daytime; no overnight or weekend call.
- Participate in quality improvement projects and various geriatric care initiatives.
Pay and Benefits
- Competitive salary ($210,000 – $250,000/yr) with annual performance bonus.
- Paid time off: 50‑55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, up to 5 days for CME).
