Position: Architectural Designer / Computational Designer

Overview

Arrowstreet is an award-winning architecture, interiors, and experiential design practice with more than 60 years of work shaping complex, forward-looking environments. Based in Boston, we operate across commercial, residential, hospitality, transportation, academic, and large-scale mixed-use sectors. Our work is grounded in design excellence, sustainability, and innovation—focused on creating places that perform, adapt, and endure.

We are seeking an Architectural Designer / Computational Designer with 5+ years of professional experience who is passionate about design authorship, advanced digital workflows, and the intersection of architecture, computation, and emerging technologies. This role is for a designer who sees computation not as a specialty add-on, but as a core design instrument—from concept generation through realization.

This position offers the opportunity to shape high-profile projects, influence firmwide design thinking, and collaborate closely with leadership and multidisciplinary teams.

The Role

As an Architectural Designer / Computational Designer, you will contribute to projects across multiple scales and typologies, with a focus on conceptual design, parametric exploration, and design development. You will play an active role in:

  • Leading and contributing to early-stage design concepts
  • Advancing designs from concept through schematic design and beyond
  • Helping elevate Arrowstreet’s internal design culture through experimentation, research, and collaboration
Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead design and computational workflows using parametric and algorithmic tools
  • Produce high-quality conceptual diagrams, visual narratives, and design studies
  • Create and refine parametric models to explore geometry, systems, performance, and variation
  • Collaborate with project teams across architecture, interiors, and experiential design
  • Integrate feedback iteratively while maintaining strong design vision
  • Contribute to Arrowstreet’s broader design excellence, innovation, and sustainability initiatives
Qualifications Required
  • Rhino + Grasshopper (advanced) with performance-driven workflows
  • Strong visualization and graphic communication
  • Understanding of videos as a design communication medium
  • Experience translating complex computational ideas into clear architectural outcomes
  • Understanding of emerging technologies, AI-assisted workflows, sustainability, and future-oriented design methodologies
  • Commitment to in-office collaboration as part of a design-driven studio culture
Preferred
  • Stable Diffusion / SDXL / Control Net
  • Python or scripting
  • Unreal Engine or real-time engines
  • Performance-driven design tools
Why Arrowstreet?
  • Work across a diverse, real-world portfolio while maintaining a strong design culture
  • Opportunity to shape early design thinking and influence firmwide approaches to computation and innovation
  • Collaborative studio environment with direct access to senior leadership
  • Platform to grow as a designer, technologist, and architectural thinker
  • A firm culture that values curiosity, rigor, and designing for what’s next
