Company Description By working at Harvard University, you join a vibrant community that advances Harvard's world‑changing mission in meaningful ways, inspires innovation and collaboration, and builds skills and expertise. We are dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming environment where everyone can thrive.

Why join Harvard Medical School? Harvard Medical School's mission is to nurture a diverse, inclusive community dedicated to alleviating suffering and improving health and well‑being for all through excellence in teaching and learning, discovery and scholarship, and service and leadership. You’ll be at the heart of biomedical discovery, education, and innovation, working alongside world‑renowned faculty and a community dedicated to improving human health.

This is more than a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of medicine.

About the Department The Harvard MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST) is one of the world’s leading collaborations at the crossroads of medicine, science, and engineering. Bringing together Harvard Medical School (HMS), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Boston’s renowned teaching hospitals, HST educates exceptional students, advances biomedical knowledge, and shapes leaders who are redefining human health.

Job Description We are seeking an accomplished physician scientist and academic leader to serve as HMS Co Director of HST. In this highly visible role, you will partner with the MIT Co Director to guide the strategic and day-to-day direction of a unique joint program that trains the next generation of physician scientists, physician engineers and innovators. This position offers the opportunity to shape the future of medical education at the intersection of science, engineering and medicine, while mentoring and inspiring some of the most talented MD and PhD students in the world.

It provides a unique platform to lead and collaborate across two premier institutions, building bridges that drive discovery and innovation, and to represent HST to external partners and stakeholders in ways that strengthen and expand its impact. Reporting to the Dean of Medical Education and responsible to several governing bodies, the role is ideal for a physician scientist who thrives at the intersection of medicine, science, and engineering, is energized by teaching and mentoring exceptional students, and enjoys collaborative leadership across world‑class institutions.

It is well suited for someone who wants to influence the future of health and biomedical innovation while continuing to advance their own academic contributions. This is a part‑time (17.5 hours/week), benefits‑eligible leadership role based at Harvard Medical School, with close collaboration across MIT and Boston’s hospitals. Part‑time or full‑time designation will be dependent on whether there will be additional effort at an HMS affiliate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead curriculum design, delivery, and review for HST MD students.
  • Recruit, support, and evaluate HST teaching faculty and teaching assistants.
  • Oversee HMS HST faculty involved in admissions, advising, and student support.
  • Mentor HST MD students and assess student performance, behavior, and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with the MIT Co Director to manage faculty recruitment, program administration, and staff supervision.
  • Serve as Advisory Dean of the Irving London Society, fostering community and supporting student well‑being.
  • Contribute to fundraising, budget development, and long‑term strategic planning.
  • Represent HST at HMS, MIT, and university‑wide committees and leadership meetings.
  • Teach on an ad‑hoc basis within HST courses at HMS and MIT.
Basic Qualifications
  • MD or MD‑PhD.
  • 10+ years’ administrative, managerial, and budgetary experience in complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Qualifications for an appointment as Professor or Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, commensurate with academic accomplishments.
