About Us
We are an investigative newsroom that is reporting on the civic nature of science around the world. The primary goal is to bridge the gaps between scholarship and practice in civic science by making it more accessible, informative, and actionable for diverse decision‑makers in the field who are building solutions to benefit society. The Lab conducts investigative civic science journalism to interrogate and unravel ongoing progress and shed light on important developments across the field.
The Lab generates new questions for the stakeholders we engage in order to shed light on the actionable insights for researchers across scientific fields and training stages,
in addition to practitioners such as science engagers, science journalists, funders, educators, community leaders, and others.
In the Lab, we’re currently looking for motivated multimedia storytellers to help us build our flagship project called the Civic Science Television Network the Civic
SciTV Network. The network comprises individual video shows on Civic
SciTV, the Civic Science Times digital publication, and also Civic
SciTV Radio. If you are a multimedia storyteller who can help us grow the Civic
SciTV Network, we would like to connect with you.
The ideal candidate has an active interest or experience in civic science and has experience working in a collaborative team environment. The candidate is looking for a side gig opportunity to expand their portfolio of work within civic science journalism.
The candidate is looking for maximum flexibility to be able to work on their own schedule
. We especially welcome those who are currently in journalism programs or those who have just graduated.
The expectation is for the project to last 3-4 months at a cost of around $300-$400/month and will report to the Lab Director, Dr. Fanuel Muindi.
