Location: Boston / North Shore, MA (Hybrid — 3 days in-office, 2 remote)
About the CompanyA well-established national general contractor specializing in high-end retail and commercial construction is looking to add an Estimator to their team. The company delivers projects for premier, nationally recognized brands and is known for quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and long-standing client relationships. With approximately 50 employees across multiple offices, this is a tight-knit team where your contributions are visible and valued.
The RoleThis is an individual contributor role reporting to the Director of Estimating. You'll be responsible for managing the full preconstruction estimating process — from plan review and quantity takeoffs through budget development and bid submission. The ideal candidate can step in, get up to speed quickly, and begin bidding jobs with minimal hand-holding.
Responsibilities- Perform detailed plan analysis, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates for commercial and retail construction projects
- Prepare and submit competitive bid packages on time and with accuracy
- Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier bids
- Collaborate with the preconstruction and project management teams to ensure smooth project handoffs
- Identify scope gaps, potential risks, and value engineering opportunities during the estimating process
- Maintain and update cost databases and historical project data
- Manage multiple bids simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- 7+ years of estimating experience in commercial general contracting
- Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, materials, and building systems
- Proficiency with estimating software and plan review tools
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
- Experience managing the full bid cycle from invitation through proposal submission
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines
- Self-motivated and able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
- Retail construction or tenant improvement experience
- Familiarity with high-end finishes and brand-driven project standards
- Experience working with national or multi-location clients
