Construction Estimator

Sterling Construction is seeking a detail‑oriented Estimator to support preconstruction efforts for commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for developing accurate and complete cost estimates by analyzing project documents, performing quantity takeoffs, and coordinating with subcontractors, clients, and design teams.

The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of estimating experience within commercial construction and is comfortable managing multiple bids simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment. Experience in healthcare, infrastructure, or public‑sector projects is preferred but not required.

• Attend site visits to evaluate existing conditions, access, and project logistics
• Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documentation to develop detailed scopes of work
• Prepare complete quantity takeoffs across all CSI divisions
• Develop and manage Invitations to Bid using Building Connected or similar platforms
• Distribute project documents, addenda, and RFIs to bidding subcontractors
• Assist in maintaining and expanding subcontractor and vendor networks
• Ensure adequate subcontractor coverage for all bid packages
• Review trade proposals for completeness and accuracy and level bids for comparison
• Prepare estimate qualifications, clarifications, and assumptions
• Identify value engineering opportunities and cost‑saving alternatives
• Support preconstruction team with budget updates and estimate revisions
• Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and industry partners

• 2–3 years of estimating experience in commercial construction preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
• Proficiency in estimating and takeoff software such as Excel, Building Connected, On‑Screen Takeoff, and Bluebeam
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills with high attention to detail
• Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and sequencing
• Familiarity with jobsite operations and safety practices
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Effective communication and collaboration skills
