Responsibilities

Classroom Support & Daily Operations

* Provide reliable, temporary coverage in assigned infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms.

* Assist the teacher in the maintenance of the child care program, taking initiative and being flexible to support the growth and development of the children.

* Assist the teacher with implementing daily activities, including circle time, story time, and classroom projects/activities.

Direct Childcare & Supervision

* Provide assistance during mealtime routines.

* Provide attentive and nurturing care to children, ensuring their safety, emotional well-being, and engagement at all times.

* Follow all established routines, schedules, and lesson plans to ensure program consistency and a smooth transition for children.

Compliance & Communication

* Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment in accordance with all health and safety standards.

* Communicate effectively with permanent staff regarding classroom activities, child needs, and any notable incidents at the end of each assignment.

* Uphold all policies and procedures of BCYF, the Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC), and the City of Boston.

Perform other duties as required.

You are dependable at short notice and take ownership of the classroom, ensuring routines and safety protocols are followed seamlessly in the regular teacher's absence.

You have the ability to rapidly understand and implement existing lesson plans and classroom structures, making you a seamless part of the team from day one.

* A Safety-Conscious Observer:
You are vigilant about the well-being of children and diligent in following procedures and communicating important information to permanent staff.

You are committed to upholding a welcoming and accessible environment for all children, ensuring every child feels supported and valued during times of transition.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

Education & Experience:

* High School Diploma or GED required.

* A minimum of six (6) months of professional experience working with children in a group setting, like childcare, camp, or educational setting, is preferred.

* Enrollment in or completion of coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field is strongly preferred.

Required Certifications &

Skills:

* Must be 18 years of age or older.

* Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain a strong attention to detail.

* Demonstrated ability to be flexible, punctual, and reliable.

C.O.R.I. and S.O.R.I. Check Required

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED

Terms:

Union/Salary Plan/Grade:
Non-Union/Non-Graded

Pay Range: $25.49/hr-$33.90/hr

Hours Per Week: 35, but the hours will vary
