Position: Senior Director, Finance Technology (Tax, Treasury, and Accounting)

Job Description

Vertex is seeking a collaborative Senior Director, Finance Technology, to lead our Financial Systems team, with a primary focus on Tax, Treasury, and Accounting. Embedded within the Data, Technology & Engineering (DTE) organization, this role will act as a key partner to the CFO and other ERP stakeholders, ensuring technology solutions are seamlessly aligned with business objectives to drive meaningful and measurable outcomes.

We are looking for a leader with deep expertise in financial systems, exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, and a passion for driving change through technology. This role will focus on supporting and enhancing Oracle EBS on premise alongside other technologies, driving system improvements and supporting key business initiatives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead strategic engagement with senior stakeholders across Tax, Treasury, and Accounting to identify business needs and translate them into technology solutions.
  • Champion cross-functional collaboration to deliver scalable, compliant, and innovative financial systems aligned with Vertex's enterprise goals.
  • Own the roadmap for financial systems, ensuring alignment with DTE and CFO strategies.
  • Drive operational excellence by applying methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Agile to optimize delivery and operations.
  • Serve as a thought leader in financial technology, advising on emerging trends and regulatory implications.
  • Facilitate change management initiatives to ensure successful adoption of new systems and processes.
  • Influence and negotiate across matrixed teams to remove barriers and deliver strategic business outcomes.
  • Ensure ethical stewardship of data and technology assets in compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Lead the technical delivery and ongoing support for a cross-functional Oracle ERP on-prem environment, across key business processes, including:
    • Record-to-Report
    • Procure-to-Pay
    • Order-to-Cash
    • Technical Accounting
  • Oversee and manage the functionality and performance of critical Oracle ERP modules, including:
    • Accounts Payable (AP)
    • Accounts Receivable (AR)
    • Oracle Projects Accounting (OPA)
    • General Ledger (GL)
    • Fixed Assets (FA)
    • Cash Management (CE)
    • Purchasing (PO) with a focus on direct procurement
  • Owns the Oracle platform and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders in Commercial, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and DTE on transversal ERP processes (plan-to-make, hire-to-retire, enterprise planning and performance management)
  • Ensure operational excellence in compliance with internal policies and external regulations
  • Lead teams of both employees and contractors accountable for end-to-end system life-cycle from requirements to implementation and support.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Deep understanding of financial systems and processes across Tax, Treasury, and Accounting as well as processes in Commercial, Manufacturing and Supply Chain that intersect with an ERP in the context of a life science company
  • Proven ability to lead strategic business engagement and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Expertise in project and portfolio management, including budgeting, resource planning, and risk mitigation.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in finance and technology.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and lead change in complex environments.
  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy, and security best practices.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, or related field or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in financial systems leadership, including experience in a biotech or regulated industry.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing enterprise-level technology initiatives.
  • Prior experience in a senior leadership role within a DTE or CFO organization is highly desirable.
  • Experience with both Oracle on-prem and other technologies like Blackline, Workiva, Kyriba, Chatham or Riskonnect
Pay Range

$228,000 - $342,000
