Boston Yacht Haven Inn & Marina is seeking a Dockmaster. This opportunity is available for the duration of the upcoming boating season, but for the right candidate, may be available year‑round. Situated on the Waterfront of Boston's North End in the heart of Downtown Boston, MA, Boston Yacht Haven Inn & Marina is an oasis for the refined boater, accommodating vessels up to 400'.
As an ambassador of the waterfront of Boston Harbor in one of the most highly renowned marinas in the Northeast, the Dockmaster is expected to oversee the day‑to‑day upkeep of the docks and marina activity, supervise the dock staff, and create an all‑around great experience for our boaters while providing the highest level of customer service and exceeding guests' expectations.
The Dockmaster also performs both administrative and supervisory roles such as planning, coordinating and promoting the daily operations, facilities, and employees of the marina, our seasonal and transient boaters, and our community.
- Reports directly to the property General Manager.
- Assists customers in making reservations, boat slip assignments, and develops relationships with boat owners and captains.
- Works closely with vendors, brokers, yacht captains, yacht owners, and managers in the organization.
- Oversees a seasonal staff of dock attendants.
- Maximizes lineal footage in the marina and strategically makes best use of available dockage to sell out for the season.
- Uses computer software to manage reservations, profiles, and folios.
- Works closely with marina office staff to handle seasonal dockage contracts and transient paperwork.
- Reconciles daily, weekly, and monthly transactions and maintains occupancy and revenue reports.
- Keeps equipment and facilities clean; stores, tracks, and inspects equipment for damage and safety.
- Opens the facility, including setting up equipment for daily use and facility maintenance.
- Closes the facility, including putting away all equipment and locking doors.
- Provides support for a variety of special events, and attends calls, meetings, trade shows, and events as required.
- Trains, coaches, and develops a team of seasonal dock attendants and office staff.
- Maintains professionalism and a calm, courteous demeanor at all times.
- Responds to any urgent issues in a time‑sensitive manner and follows through.
- Other duties as assigned by Management.
- Is available all of the boating season and takes time off only in the off season.
- Bachelor's / College Degree preferred but not required.
- At least 3 years of work experience in a marina.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff, employees, and the public.
- Knowledge of dock construction and repair.
- Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Must be able to swim.
This is a full‑time seasonal position which may require early start times and late shift end times. Weekends and holidays are a must. Please send your resume when applying for this position.
