Collections Unit Clerk (Mail Processing / Scanning Clerk)

Boston, MA (Onsite – Ashburton Place)
2-Month Contract | Full-Time | $Competitive

Sigma, Inc. is hiring a Collections Unit Clerk to support the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA). This is a full-time onsite contract role located at 1 Ashburton Place, 15th Floor, Boston, MA 02108.

If you have clerical experience, mail processing skills, and experience with document scanning and filing, this is a great opportunity to work in a professional government office environment.

Job Overview

The Collections Unit Clerk will support daily mail collection, mail sorting, document scanning, and filing operations for the DTA Collections Unit. This role requires strong attention to detail, time management skills, and the ability to work independently.

Schedule:
Monday – Friday
8:00 AM – 4:00 PM EST
Onsite in Boston, MA

Contract Duration:
March 16, 2026 – May 15, 2026 (may be extended or shortened based on operational needs)

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect mail daily from the DTA P.O. Box (7 Avenue de Lafayette, Boston, MA)

  • Transport mail to 1 Ashburton Place Administrative Office

  • Open, sort, and categorize mail by document type

  • Prepare cover sheets for document scanning

  • Scan documents using multi-function scanning devices (MFD/MFP)

  • Assign scanned documents to Collections Unit staff for processing

  • File and organize documents after scanning

  • Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of sensitive documents

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of clerical or office support experience

  • Experience with mail handling, mail sorting, or document processing

  • Experience operating multi-function printers/scanners/copiers

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Good time management skills

  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to lift and transport mail (up to 35 lbs)

  • Ability to push a mail cart on foot for several blocks

Preferred Experience (Nice to Have)
  • Government office or public sector experience

  • Records management or document control experience

  • Administrative or office clerk background
