Position: Development Accountant (Hybrid, Boston)

Development Accountant (Hybrid, Boston)

Our client is a successful real estate firm in Boston and they are actively seeking a 2-4+ year real estate accounting professional to join their team. This is a hybrid role (4X onsite) that is offering 70-90K base, depending on relevant experience, plus bonus potential. The Development Accountant is responsible for accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of real estate assets across multiple asset classes and development stages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform monthly accounting activities, including billing, collections, cash management, and accounts payable coordination
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting packages, including balance sheet reconciliations and income statement analysis
  • Provide financial reporting, budgeting, and analytical support to development, construction, and property management teams
  • Prepare monthly development funding requisitions and annual CAM/RET reconciliations
  • Assist with quarterly and year-end tax, cash, and GAAP reporting, including audit support
  • Develop reporting templates and perform analysis using tools such as Excel and accounting systems (e.g., JD Edwards, Hubble, or Yardi)
  • Support process improvement initiatives, including automation, system enhancements, and strengthening internal controls
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred but not required
  • 2–4+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in real estate, development, or property accounting
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with JD Edwards or other real estate/property accounting software is a plus
