The Accounting Manager is a hands‑on role responsible for managing the full‑cycle accounting operations of a $20 million organization with 10 retail stores, a manufacturing facility, wholesale, and an online sales channel. This position works closely with ownership and operations and is actively involved in daily accounting activities, monthly close, inventory and cost accounting, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is comfortable rolling up their sleeves in a fast‑paced, multi‑channel environment.
Key Responsibilities Day‑to‑Day Accounting- Perform and oversee full‑cycle accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes with accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare financial statements and internal management reports
- Maintain cost accounting for manufacturing operations, including COGS, labor, overhead, and variance analysis
- Reconcile inventory across manufacturing, warehouse, and retail locations
- Participate in cycle counts and physical inventories as needed
- Reconcile daily sales from retail stores, POS systems, and online platforms
- Account for credit card settlements, third‑party payment processors, fees, returns, and discounts
- Track store‑level and channel‑level performance
- Process and manage accounts payable and vendor payments
- Manage accounts receivable, customer billing, and collections
- Monitor cash flow and assist with short‑term forecasting
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable tax requirements (sales tax, payroll tax, etc.)
- Prepare schedules and documentation for external accountants and tax filings
- Maintain basic internal controls and approval processes appropriate for a small team
- Work directly in accounting systems, ERP, POS, and e‑commerce platforms
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve accuracy
- Assist with system integrations and reporting improvements
- Work closely with operations, production, and retail teams to resolve accounting issues
- Provide financial insights to leadership to support decision‑making
- Serve as a go‑to accounting resource within the organization
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 4–6 years of accounting experience
- Experience in manufacturing, retail, or inventory‑heavy environments
- Strong understanding of cost accounting and inventory reconciliation
- Proficiency in accounting software and Excel
- CPA or CMA
- Experience in a small or mid‑sized business
- Familiarity with ERP, POS, and e‑commerce systems
- Hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and organized
- Comfortable managing multiple responsibilities independently
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Practical, business‑minded approach to accounting
- Clear communicator who works well across teams
