Are you passionate about inspiring young people through books, curiosity, and learning? Habs Boys is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Deputy Librarian to join our friendly team and support the smooth, vibrant and purposeful running of our Senior School Library. This role is for 30 hours a week, from 11:00 to 17:30 working term‑time plus 2 weeks (37 weeks of the year).

The salary is up to £22,319 per year, based on an FTE of £33,177. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who loves working with pupils, enjoys developing exciting reading spaces, and thrives in a varied role where no two days are the same.

Role Overview

Working closely with the Head of Libraries and Archives, you will help run our busy library, ensuring that all pupils and staff are supported to make full and confident use of the resources available. You will help shape a welcoming, organised and inspiring environment that encourages a love of reading and supports academic success. From assisting students with enquiries to organising author visits, purchasing stock and maintaining library systems, you will take a lead in daily operations and step in for the Head of Libraries when required.

You will also collaborate with colleagues across the school, including the Prep and Pre‑Prep, to help extend the joy of reading across campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and safeguard pupils using the library
  • Run the day‑to‑day circulation desk using our Library Management System
  • Promote reading for pleasure and support whole‑school enrichment
  • Help to maintain and develop stock through ordering, cataloguing, shelving and repairs
  • Work with teaching staff to ensure the library supports the curriculum
  • Assist with and deliver research skills and information literacy sessions
  • Supervise pupils independently in the library
  • Lead or support book‑related events, activities and displays
  • Manage the library in the absence of the Head of Libraries and Archives
  • Help oversee part‑time library assistants
  • Collaborate with the Prep and Pre‑Prep to support library projects and cover staff absence when needed
About You
  • Passionate about reading, literature and motivating young people
  • Well‑organised with exceptional attention to detail
  • Confident working with pupils and supporting small groups
  • IT‑literate and familiar with library systems (Heritage LMS, iSAMS, and Microsoft platforms are a bonus)
  • A collaborative team player with strong communication skills
  • Proactive, creative and able to show initiative
  • Warm, approachable and committed to delivering excellent service
Experience and Qualifications

Experience of working in an academic or school library is essential, and professional librarian accreditation (or working towards this) is desirable.
