An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Hertfordshire. To be considered, you will come from a Construction or Civil Engineering background. The ideal candidate will have to hold a full UK driving licence.
The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for providing advice on and controlling all commercial and financial aspects of projects and contracts. The role also includes assisting Senior Quantity Surveyors in delivering commercial expertise to maximize returns while supporting the Commercial Team and Project Managers.
Key Accountabilities- Achieve or exceed budgeted targets by identifying V/E opportunities, alternative methods of completing work and procurement gains.
- Ensure external valuations are submitted in accordance with contract conditions and that payments are received by the due date, taking full responsibility for the project’s cash position and WIP management.
- Assist the Commercial Lead with monthly CVR reports, ensuring accuracy of current site positioning and final projected figures.
- Administer contract and subcontract conditions, preparing timely contractual notices for all events.
- Price and agree all project compensation events, maximizing entitlement.
- Understand bids and demonstrate good working knowledge of projects at the pre‑construction stage.
- Procure supply‑chain orders in a timely manner that accurately reflect scope, administering valuations, certifying and issuing relevant payment notices.
- Accurately re‑measure works in accordance with the method of measurement and within required time frames, maximizing entitlement.
- Achieve final account agreement on client and supply‑chain accounts, maintaining strong working relationships.
- Undertake other duties as reasonably required from time to time by line manager.
- Comply with company procedures.
- Wide experience in Civil Engineering.
- CSCS Card.
- Experience working with NEC3 or NEC4 Option B required.
- Experience working with NEC3 or NEC4 Options A, C and D desired.
- Degree in Building Surveying or a similar technical qualification (HND/HNC).
- Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Membership is desirable.
- Ability to use a range of IT packages, Microsoft Office and bespoke software.
- Exceptional relationship building skills.
- Self‑motivated and proactive with commercial awareness of the construction process.
- Negotiation skills and the ability to apply them internally, externally and with our supply chain.
- Positive attitude at all times and the ability to integrate and play an active part in the construction team.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines.
- Keenness to pursue personal development and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge.
- Highly numerate.
