# Library Assistant## Job Introduction

Library Assistant

* Reports to:
Head of English
**** Role Overview:
** The Special School Librarian plays a vital role in supporting the educational and developmental needs of students with diverse learning abilities. This position involves curating accessible resources, fostering a love of reading, and creating an inclusive library environment that supports differentiated learning.

* Key Responsibilities:
** Resource Management
* Select, organise and maintain a collection of books and multimedia tailored to students with special needs.
* Ensure materials are age-appropriate, accessible, and aligned with the schools curriculum and therapy goals.
Student Engagement
* Create a welcoming, calming library space that accommodates sensory sensitivities and mobility needs.
* Support individual students with book selection and use of adaptive tools.
Staff Collaboration
* Work closely with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom learning.
* Provide training and guidance on using library materials to teachers and support staff
Administrative Duties
* Manage library budgets, inventory and cataloguing systems.
* Maintain records of student browsing.
* Liaise with the School Library Service – borrowing and returning stock.
** Skills and
Qualifications:
*** Experience in using a school based library management system desirable but not essential.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Patience, creativity and a nurturing approach.
** Essential
Qualifications:
*** Maths and English GCSE Grade C or above
