Entry Level Officer – Red Squirrel Recovery Network

Our Entry Level Officer role is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated individual, looking to start a career in the protection, development and support of wildlife, people and the outdoors.

As an Entry Level Officer (ELO) you will support the delivery of the Red Squirrel Recovery Network project funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and in partnership with Knowsley Safari, Northumberland Wildlife Trust, Cumbria Wildlife Trust, UK Squirrel Accord, APHA, Bright Green Nature, Galloway and South Ayrshire Biosphere and Restoring Upland Nature, while receiving training in a professional working environment that will aim to elevate your skills and knowledge, preparing you for further career progression and opportunities.

As part of your training and posting you will also be required to create and complete a portfolio of work and one personal project.

During the 10 month project each Entry Level Officer will have an in‑depth introduction, giving them many opportunities within the team and the Trust; which may include, but not limited to:

  • Participation in practical on‑site conservation work
  • Supporting volunteers and volunteer recruitment
  • Engaging with local community groups
  • Attending events/conferences
  • Participate in surveys and producing reports

The post holder will need high levels of confidence, the ability to manage workload, communicate effectively, and be passionate about the natural world. Whilst we are not expecting applying ELOs to have in‑depth knowledge or skill set specialising in habit, species, and/or project work, we do require a high level of enthusiasm and drive; the ELO program is a fun and engaging opportunity but requires hard work and dedication.
