Position Information
Job Title: Field Ecology Technician (Temporary)
Location: Western North Carolina (as Ashe, Avery, Watauga Counties)
Type: Temporary, 6‑month appointment
Hours: 7–8 hours per week
Pay: $20 per hour
EssentialJob Duties
- Drive to field sites across Ashe, Avery, and Watauga Counties (mileage reimbursed).
- Collect and label armored‑scale infested foliage samples from designated locations.
- Perform microscopic insect counts using a provided microscope.
- Record data accurately and maintain sample integrity.
- Communicate findings and field conditions with the project lead in a timely manner.
- Valid NC driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.
- Ability to work independently and follow detailed protocols.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
- Strong attention to detail and data‑recording accuracy.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and handle plant/insect materials.
- Coursework or background in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related field preferred but not required.
