Position Information

Job Title: Field Ecology Technician (Temporary)

Location: Western North Carolina (as Ashe, Avery, Watauga Counties)

Type: Temporary, 6‑month appointment

Hours: 7–8 hours per week

Pay: $20 per hour

• Drive to field sites across Ashe, Avery, and Watauga Counties (mileage reimbursed).
• Collect and label armored‑scale infested foliage samples from designated locations.
• Perform microscopic insect counts using a provided microscope.
• Record data accurately and maintain sample integrity.
• Communicate findings and field conditions with the project lead in a timely manner.

• Valid NC driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.
• Ability to work independently and follow detailed protocols.
• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
• Strong attention to detail and data‑recording accuracy.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and handle plant/insect materials.
• Coursework or background in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related field preferred but not required.
