Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
:
Graduation from high school and one year of related childcare experience. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Qualifications
:
Minimum of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field and NC Early Childhood Education Credential. Knowledge of current trends in early care and research, primary caregiving, childhood development and ITERS/ECERS assessment. Bachelor or Master degree strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Record Administration: maintain classroom inventory, order supplies, and guide activities of classroom assistants.
  • Safety: apply safety techniques to facilities and children; provide preventive measures, first aid, medications as necessary.
  • Curriculum: carry out varied instructional plans for assigned age groups; provide feedback on curriculum to leadership.
  • Child Care and Instruction: apply childcare techniques to ensure basic physical care; work with children in groups and individually to model socialization and behavior skills.
  • Communication: provide effective feedback to leadership and to parents; convey information in written form; participate in community outreach.
Essential Functions
  • Establish a safe, healthy, nurturing, and engaging learning environment; meet individual needs of each child.
  • Provide activities across learning centers with rotation based on children’s interests.
  • Meet NC DCDEE and ECERS requirements; prepare children for kindergarten.
  • Use Creative Curriculum and NC Foundations for Early Learning for planning and implementation.
  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans addressing social-emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
  • Submit needs for supplies/materials; maintain inventory.
  • Complete required governmental and facility forms; keep class information current (attendance, family contact, emergency information).
  • Set schedules for student workers; supervise and guide aides.
  • Maintain classroom cleanliness, kitchen duties, and laundry; ensure health and safety standards; document incidents and health alerts.
  • Respond to and document first aid occurrences; attend relevant workshops and trainings; participate in emergency drills; ensure policy compliance.
  • Plan age-appropriate lessons; coordinate with other professionals (e.g., kindergarten teachers) on developmental expectations.
  • Keep current on field trends through conferences, workshops, and memberships.
  • Instruct and supervise 20 preschool children; guide aides in lesson delivery; provide feedback to families and agencies.
  • Maintain daily attendance records; coordinate with parents; communicate via conversations, conferences, and newsletters; provide professional feedback.
  • Collaborate with intervention specialists; liaise with community resources to enhance services.
Schedule & Work Environment

Work Schedule/

Hours:

Alternating 7:30am-4:30pm and 8:30am-5:30pm, Monday–Friday, based on center scheduling needs. 40 hours per week. 12 months per year.

Physical Demands:
Continuous lifting and holding of children; active supervision; evacuation drills; engagement at children’s eye level.
