Position Summary InformationMinimum Qualifications
- At least 10 years of professional practice in information systems with cybersecurity as their field of expertise.
- At least a Master’s degree in Information Systems or a related specialization with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the area of instruction.
- Professional competence and experience that will benefit the CIS and Cybersecurity program in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University.
- Demonstrated ability to perform teaching duties associated with the position.
- Expertise/knowledge in multiple areas of cybersecurity and information systems including: networking, scripting and programming, network defense, governance, risk management, compliance, cryptography, assurance, vulnerability analysis, and/or forensics.
- Desirable expertise/knowledge in database, systems analysis and design, and business analytics.
For courses leading to certification, faculty must either hold a current version of the certification or make a good faith effort to obtain it in a timely manner.
Department DescriptionThe Department of Computer Information Systems is housed in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. The Walker College of Business is committed to ensuring that its graduates are equipped to succeed in a comprehensive and wide‑range environment.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesIndividuals holding full‑time non‑tenure track positions are expected to teach the equivalent of 12 credit hours per academic semester and provide service to the institution. Responsibilities include teaching, grading, course preparation, and participation in departmental service.

Salary and Hiring InformationProposed Date of Hire: 01/01/2026
Suggested Salary Range: $63,000–$67,000 (ABD)
ABD Consideration: ABD will be considered. Evidence of successful defense must be received by July 31 for fall hire or November 30 for spring hire. If confirmation is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one‑year fixed‑term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor, with a reduced salary. If degree verification is provided before the end of the contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of Assistant Professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following year.
No ABD Consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered.
