RN- Emergency Department-PRN

Overview

Position:
Registered Nurse (Emergency Department) – PRN (as needed). Shift: Varies. Salary Scale: $31.68 - $40.40 per hour. Status: PRN. We offer competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package.

• Provide direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process, perform technical nursing functions, and uphold the standards of practice of a professional nurse.
• Utilize critical thinking and evidence-based practice to facilitate the nursing process in patient care.
• Assure compliance with the Iowa Nurse Practice Act and other regulatory standards.
• Performs according to the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
• Consider age, growth, and development of the patient when planning, teaching, and providing care.
• Document and maintain data on patient records (electronic and paper).
• Explain procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation and understanding.
• Act as a patient advocate; apply teaching/learning concepts to patient and family education.
• Observe patient status, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify the physician of changes.
• Respond to life-saving situations according to nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
• Mentor and precept staff, students, and others; support continuous quality improvement.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and appropriate patient care.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff.
• Restock and ensure adequate supplies for patient care.

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program:
  Diploma RN, ADN, BSN, or MSN. Valid Iowa RN license.
• Emergency Department experience required.
• Certifications:
  
  BLS; ACLS; TNCC; PALS (optional: ENPC, NRP, CEN).
• Strong communication skills, compassionate, detail-oriented, and reliable attendance.
• Computer literacy is attainable and required.

• Ability to direct or supervise others; assess patient conditions and determine when consultation is required.
• Emotional stability to cope with emergencies and stress.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated caregiving, critical thinking, and customer service focus.

• Provide direct nursing care and uphold professional standards.
• Apply age-appropriate care and maintain patient records.
• Explain procedures and educate patients and families.
• Advocate for patients and participate in department meetings and QA activities.
• Serve as a resource and mentor for staff; support quality improvement efforts.
• Communicate and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.
