Overview
St Catherines Care Home – Bolton (BL6 5QU
). Harbour Healthcare is recruiting a full‑time Maintenance Assistant (Job ). Permanent position, 37.5 hours per week, £12.37 per hour. Closing date: 31 March 2026.
- Carry out day‑to‑day maintenance on the building, its services and grounds to keep the Care Centre safe and functional.
- Ensure all legal documentation is completed on time.
- Report and address defects, damaged furniture or equipment and other hazards to the Home Manager.
- Maintain exterior areas: sheds, outbuildings, waste storage areas, driveways, paths, gardens, flower beds and signs/lighting.
- Clear snow and grit driveways and public access areas.
- Carry out touch‑up decoration, patching and painting as required.
- Test fire alarm system, call points, fire exits, emergency lights and ventilation units weekly, logging results.
- Test and record portable appliance safety and water temperatures as per procedures.
- Maintain a Maintenance Book recording defects and effect repairs or replacements.
- Assist or supervise deliveries to the Care Centre and monitor items closely.
- Liaise with the Home Manager or delegated staff regarding maintenance work.
- Participate in staff and client meetings as required.
- Attend mandatory training courses and maintain professional knowledge.
- Use paints, varnishes and other chemicals in accordance with safety instructions and keep work areas ventilated.
- Report any illness or accident of Clients, staff or yourself to the Home Manager or Person in Charge immediately.
- Ensure implementation of the Care Centre’s Health & Safety policy, emergency and fire procedures.
- Promote safe working practices throughout the Care Centre.
- General maintenance knowledge/experience (electrical, plumbing, joinery, minor tasks).
- Good communication skills.
- Confident team player.
- Clean driving licence and access to a car or similar vehicle.
- Willingness to receive training on current Health & Safety/EHO issues.
- Successful Police check and check against the POVA List where applicable.
- Understanding of central heating, laundry equipment and hot & cold water systems.
- Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations.
