We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior NDT Inspector based at our Dalton, Thirsk site.
Our commercial & industrial division designs, fabricates and constructs structural steelwork for a variety of different sectors including commercial offices, stadia & leisure, industrial & distribution, data centres, retail and health and education.
The division has manufacturing sites in Dalton, Lostock and Enniskillen. Each has full‑service capabilities and modern manufacturing processes enabling us to provide a high‑quality product to a variety of sectors. Each of our sites has its own strong reputation in the market and between them cover a wider geographical area, including Europe. They continue to set the bar high in their highly complex market.
VacancyDetails, Key Skills & Experience
In the Senior NDT Inspector position you will be the lead and primary point of contact for all Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) activities during your assigned shift. This is a critical role requiring a highly skilled and certified professional with deep expertise in structural steel specifications and inspection techniques. You will ensure that all NDT operations are carried out to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
OtherResponsibilities
- Lead and coordinate all NDT activities during the shift, ensuring timely and accurate inspections.
- Interpret and apply relevant standards and specifications including BS EN ISO, AWS, and ASME.
- Perform and oversee NDT methods:
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
- Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Visual Testing (VT)
- Review and validate inspection reports for clarity, accuracy, and traceability.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior inspectors and technicians.
- Ensure all inspection equipment is calibrated and maintained.
- Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve inspection‑related issues.
- Support investigations, audits, and root cause analysis related to quality concerns.
- Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- PCN Level 2 in Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
- Relevant PCN Ultrasonic Testing (UT) certifications covering areas such as welds, forgings, and castings.
- CSWIP 3.0 Welding Inspector certification required; 3.1 is advantageous.
- A solid understanding of structural steel fabrication and inspection requirements.
- Proven ability to interpret technical drawings, weld symbols, and inspection criteria.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and mentor others effectively.
