About the Role

EdStart is looking for an experienced and compassionate RE Teacher with a strong commitment to supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social and Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. This is a rewarding opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people who require additional support.

As a RE Teacher in our specialist setting, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and differentiated lessons to students with diverse learning needs, including those with SEN and SEMH. You will play a key role in fostering both academic success and emotional well‑being in a safe, supportive, and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • To maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the teaching of your subject(s) and take account of wider curriculum and pastoral developments which are relevant to your work.
  • To plan tutorials, activities, lessons and sequences of lessons to meet students’ individual learning needs.
  • To use a range of appropriate strategies and follow schools policies for tutoring, teaching, behaviour management and classroom management.
  • To do all you can, involving parents and other agencies, to ensure that as a result of your tutoring and teaching you promote the health, safety, economic wellbeing and achievement of your students.
  • To assess, monitor and record the progress of students in your teaching and tutorial groups and give them clear and constructive feedback.
  • To set well‑grounded expectations for students in your teaching and tutorial groups using information about prior knowledge and previous attainment, making progress as good as or better than similar students nationally.
  • To take responsibility for your own professional development and use the outcomes to improve your tutoring and teaching and your students’ learning.
  • To make an active contribution to the policies, aspirations and plans of learners, working as part of the EdStart teaching staff.

Skills & Experience Required

  • A degree in education, biology, or a related subject.
  • At least 2 years’ secondary experience in teaching preferred.
  • Strong ability to build rapport with students facing social and emotional challenges and a commitment to supporting their growth both academically and personally.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Proven ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the individual needs of students, including using various tools and strategies to support learning.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude when supporting students through their social and emotional difficulties.
