MDMS is currently recruiting Midday Meal Supervisors to work in primary schools across the Bolton borough. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who want meaningful, rewarding work without the commitment of full-time hours. If you enjoy working with children, value routine, and want to play a positive role in your local community, this could be the perfect role for you.
Lunchtime is one of the most lively and important parts of the school day. It’s when children recharge, socialise, and develop essential life skills. With your support, lunchtime can be safe, calm, inclusive, and enjoyable for every child.
Why This Role MattersA well-run lunchtime sets the tone for the rest of the school day. Children who feel safe and supported during breaks return to the classroom calmer, happier, and ready to learn. As a Midday Meal Supervisor, you will be one of the key adults responsible for making that happen.
You’ll be more than just “on duty” — you’ll be a trusted presence, a problem-solver, a role model, and often the adult children turn to when they need help, reassurance, or encouragement.
What You’ll Be Doing Day to DayThis is an active, hands-on role that keeps you engaged throughout your shift.
Responsibilities include:
Supervising pupils during lunch service and ensuring safe movement around the school
Supporting children while eating, particularly younger pupils or those who need encouragement
Promoting good table manners and positive social behaviour
Being aware of food allergies, dietary needs, and individual care plans
Helping to create a calm, organised dining environment
Supervising outdoor and indoor play activities
Encouraging safe, inclusive, and respectful play
Monitoring behaviour and stepping in early to prevent issues
Managing low-level behaviour challenges in a fair and consistent way
Supporting children in resolving minor disagreements
Providing reassurance to pupils who may feel upset or overwhelmed
Administering basic first aid when necessary (training provided)
Reporting any concerns related to behaviour, safety, or wellbeing
Communicating effectively with teachers and senior lunchtime staff
Every lunchtime is different, and your ability to stay calm, observant, and approachable will make a real difference.
