We are looking to recruit a permanent TA1 Teaching Assistant to support students in KS3, KS4 and KS5 at Rumworth School. Rumworth School, a highly regarded Local Education Authority maintained special school in Bolton, provides an outstanding provision for all students. Visitors note the "lovely feeling and buzz" of the calm and purposeful learning environment. We have around 360 students, aged 11‑19, all with an EHCP and a range of SEND needs, including moderate and severe learning difficulties, complex needs, autistic spectrum conditions, hearing and visual impairment, physical disability, and social, emotional and mental health needs.
Our ethos is "Start with the young person" and we champion education as a vehicle to improve life chances for our students. Our vision is "You can do it, we will help". Small teaching group sizes and high adult‑to‑student ratios enable us to meet individual needs. As a form teacher you will embody our philosophy of supporting young people to become more confident, resilient and independent through a rich offer of wider life experiences and activities.
Year 7 operates as a Foundation Year where students transition from primary school with the Year 7 team delivering the majority of learning. They access specialist rooms, including dedicated Science laboratories, and are taught by specialist subject teachers in Science, Design Technology, Forest School, Art, Music, PE and ICT.
Students in Years 8 to 11 follow a differentiated curriculum model:
- Some follow a more formal curriculum with a modified mainstream approach
- Some have less transition and spend more time consolidating basic skills in a based class
All students access appropriate external accreditation at the end of KS4 and during KS5. Our full accreditation offer includes GCSEs, ASDAN, BTEC, Functional Skills and Entry Level Certification, dependent on subject and ability. In KS5 students follow the most suitable curriculum for their ability and aspirations, including courses in our new Sixth Form vocational or independence pathways. We offer a Year 14 Transition where some continue on to a "Pathway to Employment" route, and those with SLD and complex needs usually follow a "Pathway to Independence" route.
We seek staff of the highest calibre who are the "right fit" for our students. We are flexible regarding the age range you wish to work with and the type of student needs you have experience with. We welcome applicants from mainstream and SEND special school backgrounds. Applicants must demonstrate good personal skills in numeracy, literacy and ICT, which may be assessed during the interview.
Visits to our school are strongly recommended prior to application, as this helps tailor a letter of application and evidence your suitability. Please do not send a generic letter or CV with your application. Please contact our School Office on to arrange a visit.

Please download and complete the application form and outline your suitability for this post in a letter of application of no more than two sides of A4 paper.
