The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Programming & Outreach, the Summer Reading & Programming Assistant will be part of the Programming and Outreach Department, with a primary focus on supporting the Programs team in the creation, planning, and delivery of summer programs. The successful candidate will gain hands‑on experience in developing relevant, engaging, and inclusive programming for all ages, with an emphasis on broad community appeal and alignment with the strategic goals of CPL.

Through this role, the successful candidate will be exposed to a variety of creative and emerging technologies, develop strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, and gain practical experience in public service, program facilitation, and community engagement within a public library setting. This position offers meaningful, transferable skills that support career development in libraries, education, recreation, and the broader public sector.

As the Assistant, Summer Reading & Programming, you will perform the following duties, including but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the planning, development and facilitation of summer programs for all ages, including those developed in partnership with community partners, and alongside CPL's Programs & Maker team staff including the Community Librarian.
  • Assist with the creation of display materials and examples using the equipment in the makerspace.
  • Participate in community events throughout the summer and across Caledon to promote the library’s programs, collections/resources, services and makerspaces.
  • Build positive relationships with library staff, customers and community partners by providing exemplary customer service.
The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an enthusiastic student in high school, college, CEGEP or university who will be returning to school in Fall 2026.

The ideal candidate will display an unwavering appreciation of and commitment to excellence in public library service by demonstrating relevant key competencies as per the Caledon Public Library’s Core Competencies; excellent verbal and written communication skills, superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and foster effective working relationships, demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision and display sound judgement, decision making and time management skills, etc.

This position offers a rate of pay of $21.18 per hour, based on a 35-hour work week.

The successful candidate will be required to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends in the office (as required).

Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate.
