Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Programmer/Supervisor Specialty Programs, the Camp Director is responsible for ensuring camp participants have a positive experience and for working in accordance with the Town of Caledon's guidelines, practices, and procedures on recreational programs and customer service excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Promote summer camp through advertising and school presentations
  • Planning, development, and implementation of camp trainings.
  • Organize and support staff in running a safe, fun, and effective camp program, while ensuring ratios are met.
  • Manage and inventory of camp supplies, equipment and crafts.
  • Handle program feedback in a professional manner.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Recreation Programmer and conduct weekly meetings and check-ins with camp staff
  • Coordinate facility schedules and camp outlines for the summer
  • Complete staff scheduling, layoffs, and breaks, while ensure ratios are met at all times
  • Organization, scheduling and staffing of additional camp activities; including but not limited to rock wall, swimming, and special events.
  • Conducting Participant Profile meetings and completing/updating documentations and allocating staff.
  • Responsible for supervision and accountability of all participants’ whereabouts at all times and address any behavioural issues.
  • Provide opportunities so that each individual child’s experience is positive and successful.
  • Coach and provide team leadership to all camp staff and volunteers.
  • Perform daily administrative tasks (i.e., camp preparation, charts, logs, tracking documents, behaviour logs, reports, wage tracking, medical forms, Injury and Incident reports, etc.).
  • Support in the planning of camp programming to include crafts, games and both large and small group activities.
  • Organize special camp events, guests, and staff socials.
  • Help develop and lead Inclusion Camp team; oversee delivery of program plans by staff including appropriate use of camp space and equipment based on the needs of the participants.
  • Review participant profiles with staff to ensure a strong, confident understanding of the participants needs and behaviour and assist with problem solving.
  • Assist camp staff with any challenges or concerns and ensure proper documentation is completed.
  • Modify program plans, if necessary, based on the needs of individual participants in your care in accordance with requests and guidelines outlined in the participant profile.
  • Identify, monitor, address and report behaviours that impact the camp program experience.
  • Ensure participant profiles are updated on the participants logbook and communication from the counsellor.
  • Daily interaction with parents/guardians and ensuring safe arrival/departure of participants.
  • Exhibit positive and professional behaviour with all participants, co-workers, patrons and parents.
  • Respond to all inquiries and feedback in a positive and professional manner.
  • Comply with all Town of Caledon policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and complete Performance Appraisals for Coordinators and review all camp staff appraisals.
  • Submission of a final report with suggestions for following years and attend a final camp closing meeting
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
  • Be responsible to work and ensure staff supervised work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, the Town of Caledon Occupational Health, Safety and Workplace Violence Policy and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
Ideal Candidate
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’ Certification.
  • Certification in HIGH FIVE ® Principles of Healthy Child Development and/or Quest 2 is an asset.
  • Demonstrated customer service excellence that reflects Caledon’s quality standards: accurate, courteous, responsive, and easy to navigate.
