The City of Boise is hiring for a Mechanical & Fuel Gas Inspector!

As a Mechanical & Fuel Gas Inspector with the City of Boise, you'll use your years in the trade to ensure HVAC and fuel gas systems are installed right and built to last - protecting the community you live and work in.
In this role, you'll conduct independent inspections on residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects, review mechanical plans, and help contractors and homeowners navigate code requirements. You know what good work looks like, and you'll be the one signing off on it.
This position is open to both senior-level inspectors and journeyman-level candidates - If you hold an active Idaho Journeyman HVAC license, we want to hear from you. We'll help you get your ICC certifications along the way.

Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Is capable of performing all duties of a Mechanical/Fuel Gas Inspector I, and provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group, as needed.
Performs skilled independent mechanical and fuel gas inspections on all permitted construction projects. Inspects complex commercially engineered systems specific to the building and its use. Interprets code requirements to verify commercial building systems operate together. Reads and interprets on‑site approved plans, notes, Air Condition Contractors of America (ACCA) reports, specifications, material and equipment listings and installation instructions. Verifies equipment and fuel gas sizing are correct, installed and tested to verify conformity to City approved plans, Code requirements, and applicable standards.
May be required to perform limited erosion and sediment control inspections.
Reviews mechanical and fuel gas plans and engineering designs for compliance with local, state and national mechanical and fuel gas codes and applicable regulations.
Writes correction notices and follows up on the correction of deficiencies of mechanical and fuel gas systems and installations identified during inspections. Monitors inspection area for work being performed without permits, proper occupancy approval and for dangerous conditions. Issues notices of violation, including stop work orders, and civil penalties where unsafe or illegal conditions exist. Performs inspections of permitted work to verify work in progress and projects with minimal documented activity.
Coordinates the termination of utilities due to serious code and life-safety violations with the local utilities, supervisor and Planning and Development Services (PDS) management. Verifies the proper licensing of plumbing contractor and journeyman‑level workers on construction job sites. Responds to complaints from tenants about substandard housing conditions involving plumbing code violations.
Coordinates with other building division inspectors to ensure a complete and accurate construction site inspection record. Records inspection results and other pertinent information regarding construction site activity in department database. Coordinates inspection coverage of the city with other Planning and Development Services staff to ensure that all mechanical and fuel gas requirements are completed prior to issuance of a certificate of occupancy, certificate of compliance or other final approval.
