Required Knowledge, Experience, and Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent and
  • 4 years of experience in an industrial plant, performing journey‑level work installing, maintaining and conducting repairs on industrial electrical systems.
Licensing and Other Requirements
  • Journey‑level Electrician license issued by the State of Idaho.
  • Valid state‑issued driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain an Idaho Wastewater Treatment Class I License or Operator in Training (OIT) within six months of employment.
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications.

  • City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation.

    In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post‑Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre‑employment drug test.
  • This position is required to handle hazardous materials that if mishandled, place the general public at risk of serious injury.
Essential Functions

Performs journey‑level electrical work on industrial and commercial machinery including troubleshooting; conducting repairs; and installing and maintaining electrical systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), motor control cabinets, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, generator backup systems, motors, panels, switch gear and related electrical components throughout wastewater facilities and other public works utilities. Performs maintenance on all electrical systems and equipment within the industrial wastewater treatment plant facilities and other utilities.

Assists with preventive maintenance procedures on instrumentation equipment. Examines equipment to determine whether it requires repair or replacement. Assists in material and equipment selection for supply and inventory levels. Creates, updates and archives electrical prints and schematics. Participates in weekly safety meetings and training classes. Performs industrial, commercial and standard electrical installations, repairs and maintenance to other city‑owned facilities and equipment outside public works utilities.

Assists mechanics in maintaining and repairing wastewater valves, pumps and other process equipment and facilities. Leads and trains registered electrical apprentices on general assignments, proper electrical installations and safety procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
