Job Summary / Basic Function

To perform journey-level installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; perform related work.

Level Scope

Regularly works on tasks that are varied and complex. Applies full range and job knowledge; frequently adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet specialized needs; may serve as lead; performs broad and/or focused assignments under general supervision; originality and ingenuity are often required to help establish procedures in functional area; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks.

Functions
  • Analyze, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on all HVAC installations, fire and boiler alarm and surveillance control systems (high and low pressure); define and implement preventive maintenance programs for motors, steam condensate return traps, pumps, controls, compressors, auxiliary heating and cooling systems, and related devices; compile reports for changes, including reporting costs, estimating values, and justifying changes; review work of construction;

    maintain air distribution and balance systems; add chemicals and analyze water treatment for chill water and heating systems; plan and install auxiliary control systems; prepare system for winter carry-over and cold weather conditions; calibrate pipe and vent sizes; may design and install sheet metal; install/inspect thermostats, and electrical wiring of furnaces, unit heaters, and cooling units; review new designs and concepts.
  • Test/maintain emergency electrical equipment such as generators and battery operated lighting; inspect and maintain specialized items; repair switches and light fixtures; repair broken pipes, fix leaks.
  • Assist other maintenance and crafts staff performing their duties; respond to emergency call-backs.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • EPA universal certification for service technicians.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Quality control analysis.
Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

charging, starting, and checking for proper operation of HVAC type equipment and related devices; troubleshooting and repairing digital electronic and pneumatic HVAC control systems; starting, stopping, and troubleshooting chiller operations and chilled water systems; modifying and/or installing natural gas and water piping; operating, maintaining, diagnosing problems, and repairing industrial type HVAC systems and control devices; performing basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and sheet metal work;

welding and repairing material and brazing pipe; cutting, brazing and soldering high pressure refrigerant piping.

Required Licenses

Idaho HVAC Journeyman Licensing, Universal Refrigerant Licensing, AND a Driver's License.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $30.36 - $33.36, commensurate with experience.
