Security Guard – Bureau of Land Management

Summary

This position is located with the BLM Fire & Aviation Directorate, Division of Support Services, Site and Facilities, in the Security Section in Boise, Idaho. We expect to fill two positions at this time; additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available.

Duties
  • Performs entry control duties at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).
  • Writes visitor passes and maintains visitor logs and security logs.
  • Conducts vehicle and foot patrol of NIFC, NIFC Aircraft Ramp and the Boise District Office.
  • Responds to emergencies and renders first aid.
  • Investigates and documents suspicious activity and abnormal situations.
  • Writes clear and concise security incident reports to document incidents.
  • Cordons crime scenes, protects evidence, and detains suspects awaiting arrival of local authorities.
  • Monitors access to restricted areas and equipment such as the aircraft ramp and parked aircraft.
  • Operates and monitors the Video Surveillance System, the Physical Access Control (PACS) and also monitors the Intrusion Detection System.
  • Operates motor vehicles in all weather conditions. A valid state driver's license and routine certification training are required.
  • Uses personal computer and various software programs for normal business operations.
  • Provides assistance and direction to employees and visitors as needed.
  • Monitors alarms and dispatches patrol to alarms.
  • Performs security checks after normal business hours.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, you must meet the minimum qualification requirements. The following examples illustrate the experience and knowledge expected:

Specialized Experience (GS‑05)

One (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity. Experience may include work with any protective organization that involved protection of property, prevention of fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. The experience must have provided knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Examples include, but are not limited to, performing entry control and vehicle/foot patrol for a large campus or institution (e.g., a military base or large industrial complex), monitoring alarms and CCTV surveillance systems, and writing security logs and incident reports.

Paid, unpaid, and volunteer experience (e.g., National Service programs, community organizations, and church programs) is eligible for credit.

All qualifying experience must be documented in the resume. Candidates must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
