Alta Science & Engineering, Inc. is currently accepting applications from talented students pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology or related fields or recent graduates to support projects throughout the Inland Northwest. Under the guidance of experienced staff, the successful candidate will learn from teams that include scientists, engineers, and clients. This position is based in our Moscow, Kellogg, or Boise, Idaho office and is a summer internship with hours ranging from 20-40 hours per week.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Conduct botanical and wildlife surveys
- Conduct aquatic and terrestrial habitat documentation and characterization
- Conduct field sample collection for water and soil according to prescribed protocols.
- Prepare samples for analysis in accordance with established protocols.
- Provide field support for groundwater and soil remediation activities.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and scientists by reviewing data and field information for report preparation.
- Assist in preparing data summary memos.
- Prepare graphs and charts from synthesized data.
- Maintain a high degree of professionalism during interactions with Alta staff, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Provide timely communication with supervisor regarding work-related matters.
- Actively promote good Health and Safety practices at all times.
- Pursuit of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in ecology, engineering, environmental science, or related degree from an accredited university, having completed at least 2 years of college classes; or recent graduate.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for successful completion of tasks.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office Software packages (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Ability to work on your feet and lift 50 lbs.
- Valid driver's license with insurable driving record.
- Willingness to travel.
- Ability to conduct field work, in some cases in adverse weather conditions and on rough terrain.
