Description

The Idaho Division of Veterans Services (IDVS) is recruiting for a full-time Dietary Aide Sr. position at the State Veterans Home in Boise. This role will remain open until filled and the posting will be taken down once a candidate is selected.

In this position the employee prepares, portions, and serves delicious and nutritious homestyle meals and snacks for veterans. The ideal candidate is a team‑player who enjoys physical work, masters routine tasks quickly, thrives in a bustling dynamic environment, and enjoys working around elderly residents. Employees in the Dietary Department typically rotate shift work, which includes evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Food preparation: prepares salads, fresh vegetables and fruit, beverages, snacks, juice, salad dressings, and similar items for regular and modified diets. Cleans, cuts, chops, dices, slices, and purees foods, opens food containers, drains fruits and vegetables, slices and portions breads, cakes and pies, makes toast. Operates food processor, mixer, coffee makers, can opener and other appliances; breaks and mixes eggs; makes sandwiches and assists cooks in preparation of specialized foods.
  • Food serving and area preparation: turns on and adjusts steam tables and refrigerated units; sets up dining areas with seating, tableware, condiment containers, napkin holders, jelly holders; sets up salad bar following posted menu and serving schedules; portions salads, desserts, fruits, and other items on serving line; weighs and measures foods for special diets; loads and unloads food carriers; fills food orders for living units;

    arranges food, beverages, and dishes for serving; stocks kitchen storage areas and staple bins; delivers food to units; reads and interprets dietary cards.
  • Cleaning and sanitation: sweeps and mops floors; scrubs walls and windows; cleans steam and eating tables, food carriers, trays, and chairs; defrosts refrigerators; cleans walk‑ins, storage areas, utensils, and equipment; operates commercial dishwasher; monitors temperature levels and pH balance; disassembles dishwasher and cleans room when finished; hand washes dishes when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications.

  • Good knowledge of sanitation and safety practices used in food handling.
  • Knowledge of equipment and devices (appliances) used in food preparation.
Experience
  • Operating and cleaning kitchen equipment.
