  • Leads and inspires design teams in Boise and Seattle. Create a unified team culture.
  • Mentor team on large/complex projects. Build team skill set. Help them become self-sufficient and confident to eventually independently deliver high-level design to the customer(s).
  • Assign projects based on skills and experience and workload capacity and manage project coverage. Develop regular team cadences. Streamline updates through a single point of contact.
  • Provide coaching and directions to staff designers working on design projects.
  • Collaborate with sales leadership to prioritize workload and negotiate deadlines and coordinate contractor help as needed.
  • Work with the Market President to help monitor and manage the design budget within the guidelines provided by senior management and the accounting department.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Operations leaders on interdepartmental initiatives.
  • Coordinate the interaction between design, sales, marketing, operations, and installation to develop and maintain the highest quality of service to customers.
TALENT DEVELOPMENT
  • Develop a strong performing design department through selection, training, performance evaluation, and coaching of staff.
  • Recruit and hire the best designers; oversee training and professional development programs or opportunities to allow designers to become more professional, efficient, and capable.
  • Coach individual designers to become more effective at their job through one on 1 meeting and as needed. Provide timely, constructive feedback. Coach on process, product knowledge, and professional growth.
  • Delegate effectively. Remove roadblocks. Ensure quality across the teams.
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators. Deliver annual performance reviews. Use data to balance capacity with pipeline. Drive accountability, with empathy and context.
  • Hold team members accountable for project deadlines, timeliness, and adherence to HB standards.
  • Conduct performance reviews and work with the human resources department on raises, commendations, and any discipline actions necessary.
  • Align standards, methods and quality benchmarks across Boise and Seattle markets.
  • Champion HB design standards and processes. Drive continuous improvement and documentation.
  • Partner with VP of Design and adjacent leaders to share best practices and coordinate staffing.
  • Coordinate the interaction between design, sales, marketing, operations, and installation to develop and maintain the highest quality of service to customers.
PROJECT DESIGN, CLIENT ENGAGEMENT, and VENDOR MANAGEMENT
  • Perform day-to-day designer duties. Own small to medium sized projects while balancing leadership responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Project Management and Operations. Represent HB with customers and the A&D community.
  • Lead conceptual planning. Validate design intent. Guide team through execution to deliverables.
  • Remain current with vendor pricing, product launches, and updates from Miller Knoll and and other key vendors.
  • Participate in Vendor Presentations as well as Design and IIDA events.
PROCESS AND TECHNOLOGY
  • Streamline processes through technology.
  • Maintain, improve, and document the design department process as it relates to the H/B Cycle of Service.
  • Maintain a strong, up to date knowledge of furniture products for all key HB vendors.
  • Collaborate with IT and Design Technology Specialist on the latest technology.
  • Work with the IT department to evaluate and acquire the best software productivity tools for the department.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • BFA, BA or BS in interior design, architecture, and planning from an accredited college /university.
  • 7+ years of related experience, managing projects and employees.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, CET, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven experience with building relationships with the A&D community.
  • Professional license or certification preferred.
  • Proven ability to motivate teams and foster talent development.
  • Professional demeanor and approach. Strong presentation skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to multi-task and continuously meet deadlines.
  • Must be flexible and work well under pressure and stressful situations.
