Overview

Support the City of Boise by performing and coordinating essential Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) inspections of the wastewater collection system. In this role, you will operate, maintain, and help repair critical infrastructure that protects public health and the environment. Responsibilities
  • Inspect and maintain underground assets in the wastewater collection system using advanced CCTV equipment; rate pipe condition based on PACP standards and identify major pipe problems.
  • Inspect sewer systems for faulty or illegal connections, operate and maintain CCTV equipment, and supervise sewer line cleaning equipment.
  • Operate and maintain high-velocity sewer cleaning/vacuum trucks to maintain flows and remove debris; apply best maintenance and repair practices including nozzle types and sizes, CCTV transporter and camera setup, and root saw use.
  • Report on collection system performance; maintain written and computerized records; coordinate with the supervisor to establish inspection and cleaning goals.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment, vehicles, and safety-related equipment; perform precautions before entering confined spaces with potentially hazardous atmospheres; use air quality monitors and ventilators; set traffic control safety devices.
  • Use computer programs to enter data and create maintenance records to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal rules; read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, maps, and GIS systems to troubleshoot problems and locate underground assets.
  • Attend and complete assigned training to maintain licensing and certification; maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment; follow applicable policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and support management in reassigning duties as needed.
Qualifications
  • Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
    :
    High school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience operating a Class B or A commercial vehicle with air brakes and tanker endorsements, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Licensing And Other Requirements
    :
    • Valid state-issued driver’s license.
    • Valid unrestricted Class B CDL with tanker endorsement.
    • PACP Certification within 6 months of employment.
    • Wastewater Collection Operator Class II license.
  • Special Requirements
    :
    • City of Boise background check processes including criminal history and reference checks.
    • Driving Record Check.
    • Drug Free Workplace:
      Safety sensitive position with post-offer testing and other requirements; negative pre-employment drug test required.
    • CDL capable of handling a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more.
Additional Knowledge, Experience, And Training

Knowledge of: wastewater collection inspection, maintenance and cleaning; operation and maintenance of vehicles, equipment and tools used in underground or wastewater utility work; customer service practices; sewer lift station operation and repair; pipeline construction and repair; construction site protocols; and computer usage including related software.

Ability to: safely operate equipment and tools; interpret SDS data and safety procedures; maintain required licenses and certificates; communicate effectively in English; perform all essential functions as assigned with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Physical Efforts: Lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds regularly, up to 75 pounds occasionally, and up to 100 pounds rarely. Pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds regularly, up to 35 pounds frequently, and up to 75 pounds occasionally. Visual and sensory requirements include talking, hearing, smell, and touch; vision ranges; and ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb, and balance.

May involve twisting and bending and operating machinery in confined areas.

Working Environment: Indoor/outdoor conditions; extreme temperatures; wet and humid environments; dust, odors, gases; mechanical and electrical hazards; work at heights and in confined spaces; exposure to sewage, chemicals, and potentially toxic gases. Shift work, rotating on-call schedule, and possible evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. On-call status required.
