The Next Gen System Analyst owns the build, configuration, optimization, and governance of Next Gen Enterprise EHR/EPM (and, ideally, Next Gen Office) across a multi-site practice environment. You’ll partner with clinical, front‑office, and revenue cycle leaders to streamline workflows, improve quality metrics, and drive financial performance. This role is hands-on: part systems admin, part analyst/builder, part trainer, and part project manager.
This position requires independent judgment, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
Maintain provider, practice, and location setups, including roles and security permissions.
Administer dictionaries and master files (problem lists, medications, orderables, fee schedules, payer/plan tables).
Oversee integrations for eRx/EPCS, eLabs, imaging, devices, and document/task management.
Manage related applications such as Next Gen Mobile, Virtual Visit, Intelichart Portal, Patient Reminders, Next Gen Fax, and Automated Document Delivery.
Maintain the legacy document archive.
Manage the Next Gen quality reporting tool to support MIPS reporting.
Design and build chart templates, clinical content, order sets, visit templates, and smart tools to improve documentation quality and efficiency.
Manage interfaces using Mirth Connect/HL7/FHIR (labs, HIE, immunization registries, clearinghouses, EDI, radiology, devices).
Develop operational and clinical reports using SQL, Crystal Reports, Power BI, or Next Gen reporting tools.
Deliver dashboards for provider productivity, access, quality, and revenue cycle KPIs.
Support compliance activities with reporting and auditing tools.
Plan and execute upgrades, patches, hotfixes, and KBM/content updates.
Develop test scripts, manage UAT cycles, and maintain change-control documentation.
Maintain configuration logs, version matrices, and rollback plans.
Create role-based training, tip sheets, and super-user programs.
Lead go-lives and optimization efforts.
Provide Tier-2/3 support, triage tickets, and escalate issues to Next Gen/vendor support as needed.
Establish SLAs and performance metrics with internal teams and external vendors.
Participate in disaster recovery testing and downtime procedures.
Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, and privacy requirements.
7–10+ years of hands-on administration with Next Gen Enterprise EHR/EPM.
Proficiency with SQL and one or more reporting tools (Crystal Reports, SSRS, Power BI, or Next Gen reporting).
Working knowledge of Mirth Connect or another interface engine, with HL7/FHIR experience.
Strong understanding of ambulatory clinical workflows.
Experience supporting regulatory and quality programs (MIPS/QPP, UDS/HEDIS) and addressing care gaps.
Proven skills in documentation, change management, and training, with the ability to translate clinical and revenue cycle needs into technical solutions.
Next Gen or Mirth certifications.
Background in data migration or EMR transitions (to/from Next Gen).
Advanced Excel/Power BI skills for dashboard development.
Good visual acuity, hand-finger dexterity, and clear verbal communication skills.
Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
Adheres to the standards outlined in the Orthopaedic Associates of Maine Employee Manual.
Complies with the Practice Responsibility Program and Code of Conduct.
Completes all required annual compliance training and continuing education programs.
