Position Purpose
As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in relation to their in-service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam.
Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran.
- Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life.
- Review medical records, diagnostic test results, and other documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran’s medical history.
- Render objective medical opinions regarding the extent of the veteran’s health issues and their impact on ability to work and conduct daily activities.
- Manage workflow within the case management system, submit findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and specialists as needed to obtain additional medical information.
- Document examination findings in clear, concise reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
- Partner with Loyal Source departments to support task completion and meet deadlines.
- Manage time, submit scheduling availability, and coordinate C&P exams.
- Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, standards, and VA training requirements, and stay updated on VA MDE program requirements.
- Safeguard patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, privacy, and security protocols.
- Graduate of a professional nursing school accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license not barred in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or territory.
- Minimum one year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Preferred experience in medical disability examinations or a related field.
- Basic Life Support certification required, with renewals.
- Previous military experience or familiarity with military/veteran communities preferred.
- Completion of specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous.
- Proficiency in conducting comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence‑based opinions.

- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Commitment to ethics, integrity, and fairness in evaluations.
- Meticulous focus on accuracy, data quality, and alignment with LS and VA standards.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills to handle multiple initiatives in a challenging environment.
- Strong customer focus and sense of urgency.
- Authorized to work in the United States and meet federal contractor requirements.
Ability to apply common sense, conduct detailed instructions, and solve problems involving few variables.
Technological AbilityCompetent with MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web‑based platforms, and electronic medical record systems. Familiarity with Teams and web‑based instructional/learning‑management systems is preferred.
Physical RequirementsProlonged periods standing and sitting at a desk while working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to fifteen pounds at times and maintain full range of motion for comprehensive physical examinations.
Travel Requirements10% travel required to support other clinics; additional travel for training or company events.
Schedule RequirementsMonday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm standard schedule. Holiday clinics are closed.
