BOISE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER The Psychiatric Clinician is responsible for providing independent psychiatric consultation in the SARMC Boise/Eagle Emergency Department. Must be able to demonstrate the skill set to gather critical care information from treatment teams, define the purpose, type and scope of clinical intervention and satisfy the care challenges to enable appropriate treatment.

Responsibilities- Provide independent psychiatric consultation in the SARMC Boise/Eagle Emergency Department and gather critical care information from treatment teams to define the purpose, type and scope of clinical intervention and to enable appropriate treatment.
- Work with autonomy and demonstrate strong decision-making to conduct thorough risk assessments and determine imminent risk.
- Work with individuals and their families to provide crisis intervention and ensure appropriate service delivery, including insight into level of care recommendations and assistance with accessing community services.
- Assess psychiatric and substance use disorders across the lifespan with knowledge of DSM-5 criteria; navigate the involuntary commitment process as defined by Idaho statute.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team (Emergency Physicians, Emergency/Behavioral Health Nursing, Psychiatry, and community mental health/medical providers).
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or PhD in Psychology (required).
- Idaho Clinical Professional License with independent practitioner credential; LCSW/LCPC or equivalent designation (required).
- Five years post-graduate degree experience in a related mental health setting or hospital (preferred).
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification from AHA, ARC or Military Training Network is required at hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as defined in SAHS Certification Crosswalk.
You will enjoy four consecutive days off each week. This position’s schedule is Sun, Mon, and Tue: 7am - 7pm.
What You Will Do- Demonstrate the skill set to gather critical care information from treatment teams, define the purpose, type and scope of clinical intervention and satisfy the care challenges to enable appropriate treatment.
- Conduct in-person, telemedicine or phone screening assessment of new patients (adult, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric) to determine if a psychiatric emergency medical condition exists.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed and communicate assessment and transfer recommendations to doctors and nursing staff, obtaining consult assistance and stabilizing care while conforming to EMTALA requirements.
- Facilitate admissions to behavioral health programs for potential new patients; provide mental health screenings by phone, telemedicine and in person; educate patients and families on screening outcomes, diagnostic criteria, treatment options and referrals to appropriate level of care.
- Educate and inform patients and families regarding transfer costs, financial arrangements and payment options; respond to telephone inquiries for behavioral health services with accurate program and community resource information; address customer concerns with supervision.
