Overview

The City of Boise is hiring a Sr Planner - Planning and Zoning to join our Planning and Development Services Department! Lead complex land development projects while making a lasting impact on urban policy. This unique role combines technical expertise in subdivision review with the distinctive opportunity to draft and recommend development code amendments that will shape our community for years to come.

You'll serve as the city's technical expert on land division, supervise a team of two planning technicians, and directly influence how our city grows through policy recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council.

Serves as the senior planner and technical expert on subdivision applications. Coordinates schedule of hearings with the section manager and city clerk. Manages the bonding and time extension process. Provides guidance and training to associate planners on complex subdivision applications. Represents the city on the Ada County Street Name Committee. Advises the department on land division issues. Reviews and makes recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission and city council on the most complex subdivision applications.

Recommends, drafts and reviews amendments to the subdivision section of the development code.

Responsibilities (Core Duties)

Reviews and processes applications for zone changes, site and design variances, subdivisions, partitions, lot line adjustments, minor land divisions, conditional uses, planned unit developments and appeals. Reviews development applications for completeness and ensures all required information has been provided. Reviews engineering plans and writes detailed technical analysis with regard to site planning and adherence to the comprehensive plan. Conducts research regarding site locations, subdivision plat notes, property easements, entitlements and zoning codes.

Reviews legal documents such as common wall agreements, cross access agreements, shared parking agreements, etc. Ensures all public hearings are published through official public notice postings. Prepares detailed reports and presents applications to the Planning and Zoning Commission, city council and public hearings as assigned. Acts as a liaison to the associated agencies that may be impacted by a development application.
