Overview

Tellers act as service representatives responsible for a variety of paying and receiving functions, including processing deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, cashier’s checks, money orders, and cash advances. The role includes balancing daily transactions, verifying cash totals, and building member relationships by identifying needs and educating members about Credit Union products and services. Tellers also serve members via phone, mail, text, email, and video solutions, actively promoting and cross‑selling digital services.

Responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility for efficient, effective, and accurate teller functions.
  • Ensure teller functions are performed correctly and in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintain privacy of member account information.
  • Perform a wide variety of teller paying and receiving functions both “in person” and “bank by mail” transactions.
  • Process transfers, cash advances, traveler’s checks, cashier’s checks, and money orders.
  • Disburse cash or check share withdrawals.
  • Process and post CD, HSA, and all types of IRAs.
  • Verify transactions, monitor deposit amounts, examine documents for endorsement and negotiability, and detect and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Make risk assessments of negotiable items within assigned limits of authority.
  • Balance daily transactions, verify cash totals, investigate and resolve out‑of‑balance conditions.
  • Provide override function for other tellers within defined authority limits.
  • Office primary member service functions through sales and service.
  • Perform all member service and sales functions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and project the Credit Union’s professional reputation.
  • Maximize penetration of Credit Union products by identifying member needs and cross‑sell opportunities to meet or exceed sales goals.
  • Actively and professionally cross‑sell Credit Union services and record accepted teller referrals.
  • Assist with new member onboarding calls as directed by branch management.
  • Answer questions and assist members with complex transactions and account problems within defined authority limits.
  • Refer members to branch leadership as needed.
  • Handle member interactions via all channels professionally, using effective sales and service techniques.
  • Open and close accounts, process stop‑payments, and resolve transaction corrections in a timely manner.
  • Perform file maintenance and account changes as requested by members.
  • Act as a branch expert for electronic services.
  • Cross‑sell AFCU digital services such as Online Banking, Mobile Banking, Card Guard, Bill Pay, Mobile Deposit, and others.
  • Assist members with account lock outs, Online Banking PIN/Password resets, direct deposit, ACH, wire transfers, and other digital service needs.
  • Coordinate with area personnel and management to maintain effective relationships.
  • Assist area personnel and provide guidance to other Teller Service Reps and trainees.
  • Keep supervisor informed of area activities and any significant problems or concerns.
  • Implement individual 90‑day sales action plan to meet sales goals, taking direction from observation coaching by branch leadership.
  • Attend and participate in trainings, meetings, branch sales huddles, and focus activities.
  • Perform related clerical and receptionist duties as required.
  • Adhere to Branch Safety, Security, and Teller Audit procedures.

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
Experience Required
  • None. Prior retail sales or similar financial institution work experience preferred.
