Job DescriptionCDM Smith is seeking an Electrical Engineering Specialist to support our growing Industrial Division. This role will lead and execute complex electrical system designs, support client needs, contribute to technical excellence, and mentor emerging engineering talent.
Key ResponsibilitiesCreates moderate to highly complex designs of electric master system plans, power systems, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and other related electrical systems.
Executes and oversees electrical design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing system components, refining sketches, and incorporating design changes, redlines, and markups.
Performs and contributes to studies of power systems and electrical calculations, including lighting simulations, lighting layouts, communications, fire alarm, security, and similar analytical tasks.
Conducts site reviews and field studies, as needed, to ensure design solutions align with project and location-specific requirements.
Updates design requirements and ensures that firm policies, industry standards, and federal, state, and local regulations are followed on all designs.
Develops white papers, technical documentation, and special-case design studies as part of the firm’s Technical Knowledge Management (TKM) program; may submit technical work to industry publications.
Collaborates with sales staff to develop proposals in response to client RFPs and reviews proposal drafts for compliance with firm standards and best practices.
Meets with current and prospective clients to understand their design needs and support ongoing and future project work.
Represents the firm at conferences, symposia, and industry events to increase visibility of CDM Smith’s capabilities in partnership with sales staff.
Provides technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior personnel, supporting their development within the discipline and the organization.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree. 10 years of related experience.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Preferred Qualifications- Proficiency in protective relay schemes and developing relay schematics/wiring diagrams.
- Expertise in specifying and selecting electrical equipment, including SCADA/RTU hardware.
- Familiarity with NESC and NEC standards.
- Knowledge of substation grounding grid design and lightning protection systems.
