Summary Statement
The City of Boise is hiring Wastewater Operators II to join our water renewal team at the West Boise Water Renewal Facilities. In this role, you will operate, monitor, and maintain advanced wastewater treatment systems to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations. The position works four 10‑hour shifts per week.

Essential Functions- Operate and adjust complex industrial equipment and processes used in advanced wastewater treatment and nutrient recovery systems.
- Utilize automated computer control systems to remotely monitor and adjust equipment and processes.
- Review historical data to identify trends and optimize processes.
- Conduct routine inspections and troubleshoot equipment failures to identify maintenance needs.
- Initiate corrective work orders and coordinate with maintenance staff on repairs and maintenance procedures.
- Perform minor repairs of equipment as necessary.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activity to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Collect and analyze process and compliance samples using established laboratory procedures.
- Record operational data and laboratory test results.
- Adjust and calibrate automated sampling and laboratory test equipment.
- Isolate and de‑energize hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrified lines, pipes, and pits.
- Monitor conditions for hazardous atmospheres.
- Monitor chemical deliveries and loading/unloading of products and supplies.
- Operate heavy equipment to load, unload, and transport supplies within the facility.
- Attend and complete assigned training to ensure compliance with city policy and regulations.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment and monitor site security.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of relevant experience.
- Hydraulic flows based on resistance pathways and head pressures.
- Electrical currents and capacitance storage.
- Operation of heavy machinery.
- Monitoring of gauges, dials, computer screens, and alarm systems.
- Parameters in supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) programs.
- Calculations for organic and hydraulic loading of aeration basins, clarifiers, and digesters.
- Computer usage and related software.
- Safely perform all routine operator functions, including confined space work.
- Conduct tests to ensure equipment, software, or processes are operational.
- Make minor repairs for basic mechanical and electrical problems and devise workarounds.
- Prioritize schedule and complete tasks within specified time periods and deadlines.
- Communicate effectively in English at a level necessary for efficient performance.
- Perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, chemical or biological sciences, math, or related field.
- Previous experience operating or maintaining an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant.
- Experience with advanced computerized systems utilized in wastewater treatment facilities and mechanical/electrical troubleshooting.
- Class II Wastewater Operator license.
- Valid state‑issued driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain a valid Idaho Wastewater Treatment Operator Class I or Operator in Training (OIT) license within six months of appointment.
- Ability to obtain and comply with annual continuing education requirements for license renewal.
- Background check processes, including criminal history and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation.
- Driving record check.
- Drug‑free workplace testing, including pre‑employment screening, posted‑employment testing, random testing, and other safety‑sensitive requirements.
