Summary:
Position is expected to start 5/26/2026 and end 8/7/2026. Maximum of 400 hours (10 weeks), 40 hours per week. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. No work will be performed on the following University of Idaho observed holidays – Memorial Day (May 25), Juneteenth (June 19) and Independence Day (July
4).
Summer Internship – Community Food Systems
Responsibilities include:
- Completing assigned training related to local food system education, programs and direct markets.
- Assisting at weekday and mobile farmers markets serving low income community members.
- Promoting the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables among the general public shopping at Farmers Markets.
- Assisting with data collection at area Farmers Markets through Rapid Market Assessments.
- Assisting home gardeners with fresh produce donations in their communities.
- Preparing an internship experience final report and submitting to the UI Extension Director at the conclusion of the internship.

Position QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Must have completed a minimum of 12 credits within the last year (these 12 credits may come from high school dual enrollment credits) at one of the following eight Idaho public universities or colleges (private Idaho universities or colleges do not qualify) and are currently enrolled in a degree‑seeking program. Priority will be given to University of Idaho student applicants.
- Must provide own transportation and have the ability to travel to multiple work sites. University will follow applicable policies if personal vehicle is used, which may include reimbursement at a pre‑established rate.
- Completed coursework in Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Education, Food Systems or other relevant subject areas.
- Outgoing and comfortable working with the public and volunteers.
- Self‑motivated and capable of working independently.
- Experience working in retail or service industry.
- Enjoys working in a variety of settings and environments with various audiences.
- Experience in creating and distributing digital media and communications.
Physical Requirements &
Working Conditions:
Willing and able to work out of doors several times per week in hot weather.
