Job Summary

Assistant Teachers support the emotional and educational needs of young children, assisting Lead Teachers in creating an enriched learning environment based on NAEYC Accreditation Standards. The role involves assessing each child, differentiating instruction, nurturing curiosity, and collaborating with classroom staff and families while maintaining a safe, sanitary environment.

Department Overview

The Boise State University Children's Center serves Boise State students, staff, and faculty with ten classrooms for children from 2 months to 5 years old, providing tailored care and support across developmental needs.

Level Scope

Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience, learning professional concepts to resolve routine problems under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives and focusing on self-development.

Essential Functions
  • Interact frequently and respectfully with all children.
  • Encourage independence and model language use.
  • Respect and build positive relationships with children and families.
  • Create a positive emotional climate for children and staff.
  • Facilitate positive peer interactions.
  • Maintain a predictable, consistent, and harmonious classroom.
  • Honor and nurture young children’s curiosities, placing interests at the center of curriculum.
  • Implement lesson plans based on children’s interests and assessment data, including Idaho Early Learning EGuidelines and NAEYC guidelines.
  • Observe respectfully and support children’s words, actions, and creations.
  • Prioritize the whole child, valuing all development domains.
  • Implement a developmentally appropriate, high-quality program for all children, accommodating special needs.
  • Assist in creating a positive development environment through environment, relationships, and experiences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Read and interpret written information from a variety of sources to complete assignments.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence to track and direct ongoing activities.
  • Speak effectively before groups of children, parents, support staff, and other teachers.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or relevant professional experience.

Licensure or Certification Requirements

Current Boise City Child Care license and pediatric CPR & First Aid certification prior to employment.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range $14.69 to $17.50/hr, commensurate with experience.

  • 12 paid holidays; 12‑24 annual paid vacation days for full-time staff.
