Saint Alphonsus Medical Group (SAMG) is a physician led 650+ provider multispecialty group seeking a Pediatric Hospitalist (Newbornist) to serve as Medical Director.

The Saint Alphonsus Family Maternity Center delivers 1,200+ infants a year and is staffed by a highly certified L&D nursing staff, OB Hospitalist service, onsite 24-hour anesthesia (CRNA) coverage, and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Our safety-oriented team of OB/GYNs collaborate with on-campus Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians, Neonatologists, and genetic counselors to serve the region's diverse patient population. The post-partum unit consists of 16 private family rooms where babies room-in with their mothers (or intended parents as applicable).

We offer excellent support from our team of lactation consultants, neonatal pharmacists, nutritionists, occupational therapists, social work and case management to meet the unique needs of each family. This opportunity is PRN, 0.1 FTE - 4 hours of administrative work per week.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaboration with Unit Manager:
    The medical director works in a dyad relationship with the nurse manager of the unit, meeting on a regular basis to discuss issues that impact the unit, such as staffing and patient concerns.
  • Policy and Protocols:
    Works collaboratively with the Manager, Supervisors, Nurse Educator, Physicians and APPs within the department on policy and protocol development or updates, using evidenced based and best practice information.
  • Collaboration with medical directors of other hospital units and/or outpatient clinics:
    Works collaboratively with medical directors from other units or clinics, establishing or advancing agreements between services, and developing policy and protocols as needed.
  • Collaboration with referring, ambulatory based and/or community physicians:
    Serves as a liaison to physicians in the community regarding the services provided on the unit.
  • Staff

    Education:

    Promotes a culture of learning among all staff within the unit.
  • QI/PI:
    Participates in quality improvement and performance improvement activities, to enhance the quality of the care provided in the unit.
  • Advanced Practice Providers:
    Works collaboratively with SAMG Leadership to develop and implement the roles and responsibilities of APPs on the unit. Assist with mentoring, training and education of these providers.
  • Meeting attendance:
    Attends SARMC department meetings and other meetings as appropriate as the physician medical director representing the unit.
  • Committees:
    Serves on SARMC or SAMG committees as deemed appropriate from SARMC or SAMG leadership.
  • Medical Staff Coverage:
    Ensures adequate physician and/or APP coverage of the unit, and adherence to appropriate provider schedules.
  • Strategy:
    Assists SAMG and SARMC leadership and recruiters with the identification, recruitment, and retention of medical staff for care on the unit, and project staffing needs consistent with the vision for the unit.
  • Coding and charge capture:
    Participates in coding and compliance audits. Works collaboratively with SAMG and SARMC leadership to assure revenue cycle integrity and charge capture pursuant to all applicable laws, rules and regulations.
  • Mission:
    Emulates SAHS mission and core values.
  • Conflict Resolution:
    Promotes a mutually respectful environment of care on the unit. Utilizes reasonable efforts to resolve conflicts. Depending on the seriousness of the conflict, the Medical Director will appraise and involve administration and medical Staff leadership pursuant to applicable Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree;
  • Successful completion of an accredited ACGME/AOA Pediatric Residency;
  • Certification by the AAP or obtain such certification within 3 years of employment;
  • Idaho medical licensure and granting of privileges at SARMC-Boise and SAMC-Nampa;
  • Current DEA and Controlled Substance.
