We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Cost Accountant to manage and oversee daily accounting activities. The Senior Cost Accountant will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies
- Perform financial analyses to determine trends, estimates, significant changes, and provide narratives explaining findings
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
- Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepare balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements
- Support internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules
- Review work prepared by junior accounting staff and provide guidance as needed
- Analyze complex accounting issues and recommend solutions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial operations
- Set standard costs of manufactured goods
- Develop and analyze cost standards
- Carry out cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis, including small businesses
- Establish costs of business processes such as administration, labor, shipping, etc.
- Investigate inventory variances
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Experience with ERP systems
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
