Staff Accountant

Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Staff Accountant for a contract opportunity in Boise, Idaho. This role will support daily accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and payroll processing. The ideal candidate will be comfortable stepping into an interim environment and contributing immediately while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and strong internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

+ Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, deferrals, and payroll-related entries

+ Process bi-weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly payroll with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness

+ Maintain payroll records, including earnings, deductions, benefits, and tax with holdings

+ Reconcile payroll registers to the general ledger and investigate variances

+ Coordinate payroll tax filings, garnishments, and benefit deductions in compliance with federal and state regulations

+ Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations

+ Assist with month-end and year-end close processes

+ Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts

+ Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed

+ Assist in the preparation of financial statements and internal reporting

+ Support audits by preparing accounting and payroll documentation

+ Assist with special projects and process improvements

Requirements

2+ years of accounting experience, including payroll processing

Working knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance requirements

Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles

Experience with accounting and payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Paylocity, Quick Books, Net Suite, Sage, or similar platforms)

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP preferred)

Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
