Responsibilities- Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the PTA performs patient testing and/or procedures, administers a program of therapeutic exercise/treatment, and provides instruction and demonstration for patients. Also, the Assistant maintains accurate documentation on patient progress. May supervise PTA students. The position relies on education and training to complete responsibilities and initially requires instruction and guidance to accomplish the job and should develop into working under general supervision.
- Treatment plan as outlined by PT are accurately followed 100% of the time as evidenced by chart review.
- Patient care is documented daily and accurately utilizing approved hospital and department documentation systems reflecting patient response to treatment, actual performance, and treatment summaries as needed as evidenced by chart review.
- Daily patient charges accurately completed, recording in treatment documentation, on the daily charge sheet of the department, as well as entering charges in the appropriate billing system as assigned per unit at all times.
- Non-routine changes in the treatment situation, discharge complications, or other circumstances that require re-assessment or guidance are communicated to the primary PT immediately as evidenced by patient interdisciplinary interaction documentation.
- Patient and family/caregiver education concerning the treatment plan, expected reactions to treatment, safe use of equipment, home programs, and follow up care are documented 100% of the time.
- Actively contributes to educational efforts of the department (in-services, students/new hire orientation, QI) with evidence of 1 in-service per year, documentation on competencies for students and new hires, and QI data collection committee participation as assigned.
- Patients being treated for the sixth treatment are treated in accordance with specified guidelines as evidenced by documentation.
- Effectively follows and participates in scheduling functions by promptly accommodating patients for treatment as ordered and with fair distribution at all times.
- As a clinical instructor for PTA students on clinical internship, provides mentoring, supervision, timely feedback, and written evaluation of students skills as evidenced by formal/written feedback/evaluation not less than twice during the internship.
- Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance and infection control standards.
- Productivity shall be measured using hours worked/units of service. The PTA shall, on a bi-weekly basis, be at or below .70 hrs/uos.
- Demonstrates collaboration in communication with team members and is open to feedback and receptive to change as evidenced by weekly team meetings and daily huddles.
- Appropriately delegates to and supervises performance of support personnel according to their level of training and in accordance with state law as needed.
- The designated chain of command used to communicate work-related questions/concerns and present solutions/options for department concerns is used at all times.
- Education: Graduate of Accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
